Allergy Free Bedding
No known allergies towards silk, makes our range of 100% luxurious silk doonas, literally, allergy free bedding! Silk is the only natural fibre that is non allergenic.
One of nature's finest fibres, silk has for centuries been synonymous with excellence, opulence, durability and mystery. Once only available to nobility, it is highly treasured and appreciated for its smooth feel and gentle warmth. Silk is recognised as a symbol of good taste and well being.
So strong, silk doonas do not deteriorate or break down like feather and down doonas, providing relief from air borne dust particles that can be breathed in and cause unsettled coughing and sneezing.
Silk breathes. Body heat and moisture are not trapped like in other types of doonas, providing exceptional comfort for either warm or cool sleepers. Keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Best of all, a drier environment prevents dust mites, mould, mildew and bacteria breeding.
How is silk produced? Once hatched from eggs, the silk worm Bombyx mori live on a diet of mulberry leaves right up to the time they build a cocoon. The silk worm surrounds itself with a cocoon, a long continuous fibre or filament of silk excreted from two glands in its body and forced out through openings called spinnerets located in its head. The two filaments are bound together to form a single strand made of fibroin, a protein, and sericin, a gummy substance that cements it together.
Each cocoon is a continuous filament measuring 600 to 900 metres (2000 to 3000 feet). By softening the sericin and locating the filament end, it is freed from the cocoon by reeling or winding with modern mechanical techniques and at the same time twisting the filaments together to form a thicker, stronger yarn. Various yarns are produced differing by the amount of fibres and different twists used.
No matter how clean your home is, house dust mites live and breed in your pillows, mattresses, bedding and soft furnishings. Dustmite don't like silk! Silk is excreted from the silk worm gland and spinneret. No bug will live in another bug's excretion! Silk is also the only fibre that is recognised to repel dust mites due to the protein fibroin, providing relief from dust mites allergy. No need to purchase dust mite covers to cover the silks.
Silk doonas are light weight, up to half the weight of most quilts for the same amount of warmth, providing freedom and comfort with ease. You will notice they are very flexible, contouring to your body and giving you a very cosy, almost hugged feeling.
Only the highest grade of AAA raw silk is used. Durable and having a tensile strength greater than steel of the same thickness, silk lasts 3 to 4 times longer than down and yet, so soft and cuddly.
As silk is very smooth, it does not readily attract soil, making it very easy to clean. Avoid laundering your silk doona unless it is absolutely necessary. For the best results, air clean your doona for a few hours during a sunny, breezy day every few months instead.
If it should need washing, Dream Silks doonas are washable using cold water in a large front loader or in the bath tub to avoid wear and tear. Use a very mild liquid wash like Breathe Ezy Total Laundry Care, Woolite, Zero or Baby's Own. Hang to dry away from direct sunlight or indoors to avoid damage from UV rays and heat. The silk will dry very quickly. If you need to use a dryer, select either air fluff or cold air cycle.
The silk is a full size bat about 15cm square, using long strand silk, sandwiched between cotton covers and sewn side-to-side and end-to-end to prevent movement and clumping. The outer cotton shell is 100% mercerized cotton percale with 233 thread count. No need to shake or flatten the duvet to make it look good on your bed.
"I have a 2 year old son who suffers from multiple allergies. He has a rare skin condition and can only wear silk or 100% cotton. He has trouble breathing due to the allergies in the air and in our house. I purchased a Dream Silks duvet for him. I was astonished with the outcome. Not only has my son's breathing improved, his sores and itchiness has reduced significantly and he now sleeps throughout the night. I then purchased duvets for the rest of the family. I used to wake with a stuffy nose, and within the first night's sleep, I woke up clear as a bell." L. Anderson - Canada
"Nothing compares to putting the duvet on the bed, and using it. For the first time in months, I am not throwing the covers off and on. The duvet seems to know what temperature is perfect for me. The silk duvets are light and very comfortable - I feel like I am sleeping at the Hilton again." P. Lynch - Canada
The cost for a silk doona is very affordable. You will pay the same price for silk as you would for a feather or synthetic filled duvet. Dream Silks are the only manufacturers that offer a 10 year warranty against defects in material and workmanship from date of purchase, well ahead of other bedding companies only offering from 30 days to 2 years.
To make a difference, Dream Silks doonas can be a beneficial addition to your dust mite bedding range. They can be used as part of your comprehensive dust mite control and asthma management plan. Avoid toxic dust mite spray, your dust mites mattress treatment is available in Sydney by contacting Mitey Fresh.
